On the afternoon of September 10, a symposium on China-Nigeria economic and trade cooperation was held at the China-Africa Economic and Trade Cooperation Promotion Innovation Demonstration Park in Changsha. Austin Akpehe, chairman of the Kuje Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mining and Agriculture, led a delegation of 12 people from Nigeria to visit. Peng Zheng, Executive President and Secretary-General of the China-Africa Economic and Trade Cooperation Promotion Research Institute of Hunan Province; Peng Li, Executive President of the General Chamber of Commerce of Hunan; Nigeria; and representatives of member enterprises such as Zhuzhou Guangzhong Heavy Machinery, Shenzhen Zhicai Electrical Appliances, Hunan Kangyuan Pharmaceutical, Redsun New Energy, Silk Road Help participated in the meeting.

Peng Zheng welcomed the delegation and briefed them on Hunan’s cooperation with Africa. In 2025, Hunan’s imports and exports to African countries reached 58 billion yuan, up 5.8% year on year, ranking first in the Midwest for seven consecutive years. The Research Institute relies on two national platforms, namely the China-Africa Economic and Trade Fair and the China-Africa Economic and Trade Deep Cooperation Pioneer Zone, to provide Xiangsu enterprises with comprehensive chain services such as think tanks, project matching, fiscal and taxation, and law to Africa. He said he hopes to use this meeting as an opportunity to promote industrial investment exchanges between Hunan enterprises and Nigerian chambers of commerce and local enterprises, and promote the implementation of cooperative projects.

Austin Gao Linsheng said that the Kuje Chamber of Commerce is located in Abuja; its members span industries such as business, mining, and agriculture—and can help Chinese companies connect with local governments, industrial parks, distributors, and partners. Nigeria currently has strong demand for agriculture, minerals, new energy, medical care, and the digital economy, and hopes that China will shift from pure trade to local investment and production. Peng Li said that the Nigeria–Hunan Chamber of Commerce is familiar with local policies, labor conditions, and risks, and is willing to facilitate Hunan-based companies’ entry into Nigeria “a forward position “， We provide on–the–ground services in areas such as inspections, registration, engineering, and supply chains.

During the discussion session, Guangming Heavy Machinery presented a proposal to promote mining metallurgical equipment; Zhichu Electrical Appliances explored connections with small household appliances channels; and Kangyuan Pharmaceutical discussed localized drug production. Red Sun New Energy introduced its experience in solar power and energy storage projects in Nigeria; Xu Jin, dean of the School of Humanities and Tourism at Hunan Vocational and Technical College, and Zeng Aiwu, head of the Research Association’s tax and customs compliance review team, each made remarks on talent development and tax/customs compliance. Through these meetings, the parties established a regular coordination mechanism, which is expected to facilitate the implementation of several “small but excellent” projects in Nigeria.
